Education is the preservation and enhancement of knowledge and the development of character within our given form of society which will best prepare the individual for the conditions of extreme novelty. The near future is bringing in the current educational climate of no child left behind, education is becoming narrow in scope and disconnected from its history. We believe that the central purpose of the schools is to help children develop their own capacity for success in life for becoming effective citizens for democracy- individuals who have skills, attitudes, and knowledge to be productive community members, leaders, parents and workers.
This stands in sharp contrast to those who believe the ultimate purpose of schools is to create workers who can meet the standards of the industry. The problem is that when most people are asked this question, they agree that we should be educating children to be citizens, to become the people that they can be.
Schools not only offer this benefit but allow one to be around others that are seeking something greater in life, and have a desire to achieve and reach for higher goals. If one can fit into the right social environment, rewards can be reaped that will last way beyond that of graduating and even up until retirement years. However, in practice, present systems of standardized testing work directly against this outcome, narrowing the focus and curriculum of schools. We believe that communities, parents, and schools have an obligation, and opportunity to create individuals who can provide community leadership to address to solve difficult problems.
I assure you that St. Joseph's School will ensure that we develop a brilliant student out of your child and we mix this with a generous topping of the traditional values, manners and courtesy. You would feel proud in the step by step success of your child, we will enjoy showing you how your child would enjoy being part of this wonderful institution.
